start2see welcomes two new LCA based credits in the Green Star rating tools.

On 21 August 2013 the Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) announced changes to the Innovation category of Green Star rating tools. See http://www.gbca.org.au/green-star/innovation/green-star-innovation/34884.htm.

As part of this announcement several Innovation Challenges have been released, this includes two LCA based credits: ‘Environmental Product Declarations’ and ‘Materials Lifecycle Impacts’. These credits can be downloaded at http://www.gbca.org.au/green-star/innovation/green-star-innovation-challenges/34894.htm.

The two credits will be subject to stakeholder consultation and revision from September to November 2013 when a discussion paper will be released inviting stakeholder comments. Until this formal stakeholder consultation process commences, or the credit is taken up as an Innovation Challenge by Green Star project teams, general stakeholder comments should be reserved.

Preliminary release of this credit as an Innovation Challenge credit is aimed at maximising the opportunities for refinement and testing through use by Green Star projects.

With over 15 years experience in LCA for the building sector and having provided input into the process that led to these credits, start2see is well placed to assist clients with their implementation. Contact us to discuss how you can apply these new credits and benefit from the extra Green Star points on offer.
