Food miles are a measure of the transport distance (and mode of transport) for food items. The idea behind food miles is: the further the distance “from farm to market”, the higher the amount of food miles, the higher the related environmental impact.
Unfortunately food miles tell just a (small) part of the story. The outcome is by no means a representative picture of the environmental impact related to a food item. To study the actual impacts, the complete supply chain should be taken into account (using life cycle techniques).
Therefore, start2see will not conduct food mile assessments.
