Congratulations to New Zealand Steel for publishing the EPDs of a range of flat steel products (not yet on the market) with EPD Australasia.
New Zealand Steel offers a wide range of products such as ZINCALUME®, COLORSTEEL® and AXXIS®, which are used in applications across the construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, packaging and agriculture sectors. New Zealand Steel has embarked on arguably the biggest single decarbonisation project in New Zealand’s history, by switching its steelmaking process at the Glenbrook site in Auckland to an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF). Set for operation in 2026, it will enable New Zealand Steel to shrink its carbon footprint and will enable New Zealand, to be as close to self-sufficient as possible when it comes to steel, utilising a largely renewable grid and recycling scrap steel. The EPDs reflect the expected situation when the EAF is fully operating, and thus cover “products not yet on the market”. Nonetheless, they offer a great view into the not too distant future for New Zealand Steel.
